PE-1001 Field Trip - April 2008
Eufala, OK area
Sponsored by Williams

Approximately 35 students from the Introduction to Petroleum Engineering (PE-1001) class, staff and hosts, traveled to the Eufala, OK area on Friday, April 4, 2008 to visit a drilling and production operation operated by Williams Exploration and Production.  Students received a first hand look at a horizontal drilling operation, as the Union Drilling Rig #105 was drilling the 2500 ft. lateral in this Arkoma Basin Coalbed methane prospect.  Highlights included the opportunity to catch some of the coal coming off of the shale shaker, learning about the downhole motor and other steering technology that enables the drilling of the horizontal, plus seeing the tools/techniques necessary to keep the bit within its three foot coal bed target.

A special thank you goes out to Ken McQueen and the management and employees of Williams for their generosity and their time in arranging this trip for our class!
