Robbin Jones

Robbin JonesRobbin graduated with the Outstanding Senior Award from The University of Tulsa in 1981 with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering.  After graduating, Robbin joined Caruthers Producing Company in Shreveport, LA as a petroleum engineer.  Robbin went on to work for Diamond Energy Operating Company and then went to Equinox Oil Company, climbing the ladder all the way to Vice President of Reservoir Engineering.  In 1999 he then went to work for Schlumberger, first as Director of A & D Solutions, and then as Consulting Services Manager.  He joined Mid-Con Energy in Tulsa, OK in 2005.  Currently, Robbin is COO of Mid-Con Energy, operating and developing several successful water floods in Oklahoma and the surrounding area.

Robbin is actively involved with TU's Petroleum Engineering department.  He has hired several of our students and is always willing to provide counsel when asked.

Robbin in his own words:

Why did you choose TU?

I chose TU because it was recommended to me by two friends who said TU had a good petroleum engineering school. Dr. John Day, was department chairman then. He met with me and listed the number of TU graduates who were E&P CEO's. The President of OPEC at that time, Humberto Calderon Berti, had a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from TU. It was obvious that industry leaders chose TU, so it made my decision easy.

Did TU prepare you well for your career?

TU definitely prepared me for my career. I was fortunate that most of my professors had worked in industry, so they could tie the theoretical with practical application. Dr. Brill told me once in his office that every tough consulting job he ever tackled could always be broken down into engineering fundamentals. First break the problem into engineering fundamentals, and then the solution will come.

Any fond memories you would like to share?

At TU I received one on one interaction with my professors that I don't think exists at most universities. Dr. Day, Dr. Brown, Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Brill always made time to help me with a homework problem or explain a lecture. They were all very accessible, which I really appreciated.
