Tom in his own words: Why did you choose TU? My father had been to Tulsa on business in the late 70's when Petroleum Engineers were in high demand. He encouraged me to check it out. I visited on a weekend during November 1979 and really liked the University. Did TU prepare you well for your career? Yes, and I especially benefited from the advanced technical training in the Master's degree program. Any fond memories you would like to share with us? Here are a few... 1) Getting married in Sharp Chapel, 2) Teaching a Chinese fellow graduate student some Oklahoma slang, 3) Playing pranks on my fellow students (like filling an entire dorm room at Twin Towers with crumpled newspaper !!!!) |
Tom graduated from high school in the Chicago area in 1980, then came to
TU and received bachelor's and master's degrees in petroleum engineering
in 1984 and 1987. He married while still in graduate school, then
went to work for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Tom
worked in an internal reservoir engineering consulting group at Phillips,
but in 2000 he accepted a reservoir engineering position with Vintage
Petroleum in Tulsa. In 2003 Tom joined Cimarex Energy in Tulsa as
Engineering Manager in the Gulf Coast Exploration Group, becoming Chief
Engineer of Exploration in 2005. Tom and his wife Sarah have six
children ranging in age from nearly 19 to 2 years old. Tom enjoys golf,
restoring old cars, woodworking, radio-controlled airplanes, and volunteering
in his church.
