Shari Dunn-Norman 1

Shari Dunn-Norman graduated from The University of Tulsa with her BSc degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1978 and worked for ARCO Oil and Gas, ARCO Exploration and ARCO International for eight years in a variety of assignments, including foreign assignments in Indonesia and the UK. Shari obtained her PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1990 and joined the petroleum faculty of the University of Missouri – Rolla teaching production engineering, artificial lift, offshore applications, drilling, and environmental aspects of petroleum engineering. She has authored a number of technical papers and has co-authored and co-edited the book entitled “Petroleum Well Construction.” Her current research interests are focused on methods of recovering the very shallow heavy oil reserves in western Missouri.

Shari in her own words:

Shari remembers TU fondly, especially the CAT FRAT. (Some of you out there will know what that was!) She also fondly remembers working with the SPE chapter and winning the outstanding student chapter award. When asked how TU prepared her for her career, Shari indicated that working with outstanding professors and colleagues helped her gain the knowledge and organizational skills needed to succeed in both industry and academia. When asked why she came to TU to study, she enthusiastically replied, “When I visited the campus, I saw that TU was clearly a great school, and Dr. John Day convinced me that I would enjoy a career in the oil industry. He was right. I have traveled the world during my career in petroleum engineering and have enjoyed every moment.”
