Education:
BS, Imperial College, London, 1980 Work:
1980 to 1986 - Petroleum Development of Oman Dr. Al Rumhy in his own words: Why did you select TU?: I had several offers when I applied for MS program in PE. Eventually I decided to visit the 2 that I "short listed" so to speak. When I visited Tulsa, I just fell in love with the city and the university. In those days, we were using the North Campus, and the simplicity of the campus and the "homely" atmosphere attracted me. What has been your experience at TU and any fond memories? I stayed for a short period in Tulsa, but I still have fond memories of the University. At the end of the day, university is all about the people. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. I am talking about non-academic staff; you know the supporting staff. People who handle your registration, the secretaries, the library staff, computer center, cafeteria staff. These guys you meet and deal with them about 12 times a day. Believe me, they make a difference. They made a difference in me and my memories of TU. It was a long time ago; I am talking about 1982. I hope some of them are still there, but if not, I hope the tradition continues. As for others, they were equally great. I still communicate with Prof. Brill, for example, which shows the bond I have with TU. Finally I have to mention the student body was also excellent. There were students from all over the US and all over the world. I still remember the friends I had from Venezuela and Norway and not to mention the American friends we made in that short period of time.
What advice you would give to the current students? One of the things that I vividly remember about my experience as a student, not only at TU but from other universities I attended, is the people. I have 2 sons, and I always tell them to value people, to value their friendship and to learn from them. We learn from each other and knowledge is not just acquired from Professors. In a place like TU, students from all over the world share their experience. This is knowledge. Take advantage of it. The world will be a better place if we learn and understand each other. TU made a difference in me. It can make a difference in you, a positive difference. |
